July Art Challenge - Day 8 Frog in Hanumanasana (The Leap of Faith) (5x7) (Digital Download)
A message from the artist: This design comes from the 2026 July Art Challenge that created/hosted as well as participated in on social media. This painting depicts a frog embodying Hanumanasana, a posture that honors the divine monkey deity Hanuman from the Ramayana. This asana physically recreates Hanuman’s legendary and courageous leap across the ocean which was an act driven by absolute devotion and selfless service. By placing the palms together above the head, the posture transforms from a physical split into a profound gesture of surrendering the ego. In the yogic tradition, animals are viewed as pure expressions of nature and spiritual teachers. Here, the frog symbolizes the grace, patience, and inner strength required to take our own leaps of faith.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION 📢
Yoga originated in northern India over 5,000 years ago
Historically, yoga was not a physical fitness routine; it was a holistic spiritual, mental, and ethical philosophy meant to unite human consciousness with the divine
BRITISH COLONIAL DISRUPTION (This is not meant to shame, only to inform) - This will also be brief and I encourage everyone to conduct continued research to stay informed ❤️
CRIMINALIZATION & SHAME
Yoga banned/marginalized
Lineages broken
Gurukul systems were erased
HYBRIDIZATION
Blended with gymnastics
Shift to pure physical focus
Stripped of spiritual roots
WAYS TO APPRECIATE AND NOT APPROPRIATE
Shift Your Daily Practice
Embrace All Eight Limbs
Pronounce Sanskrit Accurately: For example, the displayed āsana (आसन) (correct term for a yoga “pose”) is called Hanumanasana and is rooted in Hindu mythology and honors Hanuman, the divine monkey deity who personifies courage, selfless service, and absolute devotion (bhakti). The posture physically replicates a legendary "leap of faith" detailed in the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana

Respect Symbols and Traditions
Honor Sacred Imagery: Do not wear sacred symbols like the Om (ॐ) or images of deities (like Ganesha or Shiva) on your feet, leggings, or swimwear, as placing these symbols on lower-body items or dirty floors is deeply disrespectful in South Asian culture.
Keep Shoes Off the Mat: Remove shoes before entering a practice space, which is a foundational sign of respect for sacred grounds across India.
