A message from the artist: This design comes from the 2026 July Art Challenge that created/hosted as well as participated in on social media. The prompt for this day, July 11th was “Aquatic Animals” …. Much to my ABSOLUTE JOY! I love, love, loooooove underwater documentaries and I was watching one the night before this painting. The documentary was describing an area near the coast of Mexico that is used for conservation. Specifically for the conservation of Hammerhead Sharks.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION! 📢
Several subspecies of hammerhead sharks are critically endangered.
Critically Endangered (great, scalloped, smooth) to Least Concern (bonnethead)
Shark populations often reflect the “health” status of a reef as this predator cannot stay where there is no food
1.3 to 2.7 million hammerhead sharks are killed per year, primarily due to the shark fin trade. These species of shark are a common target due to the large size of their dorsal fin
These species attack on average even less than 1 person per year and there is no current record of fatality
