Inspiration behind the piece: I believe it is a gift to see the world through the eyes of an artist. To have a form of creative expression not only exist outside of ourselves, but one that also connects to others. This painting reflects many associations spring time, the harvest, work from hand to earth. I chose to follow a very traditional process when creating this painting. I first started with sanding and adding white Gesso to the canvas, then I created an underpainting using a watered down burnt sienna. The layers of paint go from dark to light and the piece is completed with a matte finish. I named this painting “Orchard” as it is a more literal description but also because I found something charming within the simplicity of such a title.
